2 Weeks In...

Hello America,

It's been nearly two weeks since I first arrived here in Japan. It has definitely been an awesome experience so far. I am learning a lot about Japan, its history, culture, traditions, and so much more. More importantly, I am learning how much I value and cherish my friends and family back home. I miss my parents like no other. And I wish I was downing sake with my best friends (you know who you are).

I just got back from a trip to Hiroshima. It was incredible being able to seeing a place that I had grew up learning about. The effects of the atomic bomb are still imminent today, but the people use it as a catalyst for peace rather than crutch. We ate delicious food (look at pictures), saw some awesome shrines, buildings, landscapes, etc. On that note, the service over here is impeccable. Everyone is so nice and friendly all the time. If only I understood what they were saying...

I went to the beach today and the water was really warm, a nice change from the states. Everyone on this trip has been awesome; full of different personalities. But I am not gonna lie, I am already incredibly homesick. I constantly worry about my parents, hoping they are doing well. I wish I was back in school getting ready to move in and watch Bruin Bash. But don't get me wrong, I know how fortunate I am. Can't have everything right? I am so blessed and need to constantly remind myself that. Please facebook me, message/email me, or keep me in your prayers. I miss you and can't wait to see you soon.

  1. Thach, I know how you feel. Everyone's been updating their status talking about how they are moving in to the apts or dorms and how excited they are for the next school year..but I know this will be worth it. It's rough knowing that your family isn't as accessible as before, even though living on campus we didn't see them much anyway. So I guess it's all in your head. Your family is as close as a phone call away :) Also, that sushi looks SO good. I hope you don't come back to the states disappointed with the sushi we have.. LOL! I hope your trip is going well :) You are in my thoughts <3

  2. Hi Tak!! It's so great to read about your travels so far...I know it can be hard to adjust to new places, but I think you are going to take so much away from your time in Tokyo. Know that we are missing you here in LALAland!
